For over 100 years, Baudouin has designed and manufactured the highest quality diesel engines for marine and power generation applications globally
Baudouin 490kW Diesel Engine
The Baudouin 6M21G550/5 features immense structural engineering margins, relying on a full 12.54-litre displacement layout that utilises a generous 127 mm x 165 mm long-stroke piston profile. Operating on a 15.2:1 compression ratio perfectly balanced for high-density electronic common rail thermal paths, the heavy cast-iron mono-block integrates a high-flow 24-valve overhead cylinder head configuration to secure rapid, unobstructed volumetric air conversion. This rigid block casting handles an intense 31.26 Bar BMEP (Brake Mean Effective Pressure) threshold under full standby loads, distributing structural strain evenly across the lower bearing journals to extend component lifespans.
Industrial Power Architecture & Reliability
This multi-cylinder platform introduces exceptional physical torque stability to counteract severe inductive voltage shifts caused by heavy machine starts, manufacturing tools, or commercial HVAC installations. By combining advanced turbocharging with an air-to-air charge air cooler, the incoming induction flow remains dense and cool, which drops internal cylinder head stress and completely eliminates the head-warping vulnerabilities seen in lighter, over-boosted engine blocks. The clean external design limits exposed flexible connections, ensuring straightforward field service and minimising upkeep downtime.
Baudouin 490kWm Engine Technical Features
Heavy-Duty 12.5L Frame: Spreads immense continuous loading forces across a generous six-cylinder alignment, ensuring smoother torque progression and lower lower-order physical vibrations.
Robust 24V Electrical Grid: Utilises a 24Vdc negative-to-ground layout equipped with an 8.5 kW high-torque starter motor and a 70 Amp charging alternator to ensure immediate automated grid transfers.
High-Flow Lubrication Matrix: Designed with an expanded wet sump holding up to 34 Litres of oil, driving a heavy-duty internal oil circulation loop exceeding 180 Litres per minute to control thermal friction.
Aggressive Tropicalised Cooling: Integrates a mechanical radiator assembly with a 12 kW belt-driven pusher fan designed to displace 474 cubic meters of air per minute, sustaining performance up to 55 degrees Celsius ambient heat waves.
Standard SAE 1 Architecture: Employs a robust SAE 1 flywheel housing coupled with a large 14-inch flywheel layout, providing high rotational inertia to absorb harsh transient load changes.
